The National Education Technology Plan calls for our education system at all levels to be clear about the outcomes we seek, collaborate to redesign structures and processes for effectiveness, efficiency, and flexibility, and continually monitor and measure our performance, and hold ourselves accountable for progress and results every step of the way. Technology based learning and assessment will be vital in improving student learning. Technology will also help us with collaborative learning strategies along with professional learning that will improve teacher's knowledge and expertise.
The NETP presents a model powered by technology with goals in the following areas; learning, assessment, teaching, infrastructure, and productivity. Technology makes all things possible through knowledge and understanding.
Learning is the first area that focuses on how we teach to match what people need to know, how they learn, where and when they will learn, and who needs to learn. Assessment allows us to measure what is important, discover strengths and weaknesses to help promote student performance, and involving all stakeholders in the process of creating and using assessment. Assessments provides data that will help make decisions that are best for all students and our entire education system. Technology can help us build the capacity of teachers by producing a shift to a model of connected learning. Education has unfortunatley not not improved in the area of productivity through technology. It needs to incorporate the practices of other successful organizations. A comprehaensive infrastructure for learning is a must to gear traditional teachers into modern technology thinking.
