2008 (LRPT) Long Range Plan for Technology

The first Long Range Plan for Technology was first introduced over twenty years ago. Since it was introduced, hardware and software capabilities have changed drastically. The Internet was also introduced, and many new technologies have been introduced to education. New technologies such as digital phones, iPods, and laptops are quite common today.

The latest plan in 2008 has helped schools embrace new learning opportunities because they build capacity for the future. Teachers are becoming more like mentors to help share their expertise with other educators. Campus administators are also learning the value of buliding capacity, with the use of technology, to continue growth of student achievement. The growth of online learning, digital content, curriculum and student management systems, and online professional development has a large difference in how schools make use and implement the Long Range Plan for Technology.

The programs that the progress report highlights are the (TIP) Technology Immersion Pilot, and the (TxVSN) Texas Virtual School Network. The Technology Immersion Pilot covers the progress made during the third and fourth years of the pilot implementation. Evaluation data is available that discusses the successes and lessons learned. The Texas Virtual School Network provides more opportunities and options through availiability of online courses.

The final part of the report is a summary of services provided by the twenty regional service centers. Each center has programs and technology professional development to help support all educators.
